Schema & structured data

Tell machines exactly who you are — in a language they can't misread

Structured data is the most reliable way to control how search engines and AI systems describe your business. It's also one of the most commonly botched implementations I find in audits.

What's included

Schema strategy

A mapping of every page template to the types and properties that are eligible, useful and honest — not a scattergun of markup for its own sake.

JSON-LD implementation

Clean, template-driven JSON-LD that stays in sync with visible content. I can implement it directly in WordPress, a headless build or hand-coded templates.

Entity & knowledge graph

Organization, Person and sameAs relationships that connect your site to the profiles search engines and language models already trust.

Rich result eligibility

FAQ, Product, Review, Breadcrumb, Event, HowTo and LocalBusiness markup targeted at the SERP features your competitors are already winning.

Validation & QA

Rich Results Test, Schema.org validation and pre-launch checks so a CMS change never quietly invalidates your markup.

Monitoring

Search Console enhancement reports tracked over time, with alerts when errors or warnings appear.

Why it's worth doing properly

  • More visually prominent results that win clicks at the same ranking position
  • Unambiguous machine-readable facts: hours, prices, ratings, locations, authorship
  • Stronger entity signals for AI assistants deciding who to cite
  • Breadcrumb trails that improve SERP presentation and crawl understanding
  • A defensible identity graph linking your site to LinkedIn and industry profiles
  • Fewer misinterpretations of what your business actually does

Structured data questions

Does schema markup improve rankings?

Not directly, but it changes how your result looks and how confidently machines interpret your page. Rich results earn more clicks at the same position, and structured data is a major input to how AI assistants describe your business.

Which schema types matter most?

Organization and Person for identity, plus whatever matches your pages: Service, Product, Article, FAQPage, LocalBusiness, Event, Review and BreadcrumbList. Marking up things you don't actually have on the page causes more harm than good.

How do you validate it?

Google's Rich Results Test and Schema.org validator on implementation, then Search Console enhancement reports for ongoing monitoring so a template change doesn't silently break everything.
